As a makeup artist, one of my most fielded questions (aside from can you make me look younger) is..."What's your favourite brand?", or "What makeup do you use?"
The truth is, I don't have one brand. I use a bunch of different brands.
I have my favourites, items I've been using and restocked over and over because I know they work, new-up-and-comers, old-timey-trusty-I-can-hardly-read-the-label items...and, if I'm completely honest, I'm really reluctant to answer that question with any specific detail.
Whyyyyyyyyyy??! I hear you ask. Why won't you just tell me what to use and what to buy? The answer, because as an artist, these are the things that work for me. Much like an athlete has a favourite pair of compression tights or runners, or a pre-marathon ritual to help them to their peak performance, I think of my kit in the same way.
Ok, so..I don't just use ONE brand. I don't believe that any one brand makes all things in a superior fashion. I like to choose the best performing items from that brand. I don't want to be limited in what I can use or try, to me that's chopping off your nose despite your face
I don't want to cast doubt on a product that you could be on the fence about. I want you to try things, new products, ask for samples (note not everywhere will give samples), do some research. Trial and error, experimentation makes you a BETTER ARTIST! And you all want to be better, right? Did I mention research? Trial and error...?!
And, my makeup goals could be different to yours. You may not have even heard of some of the things I use, because they are PROfessional brands. I don't buy anything based on a recommendation off YouTube. Sorry, maybe that comes across as rude, its not meant to be, I just like to know for myself what works and what doesn't. I base my purchases on performance. I don't want to buy something because someone (and I'm not saying everyone is, not everyone can be bought) has been paid to recommend a brand or product. I want products that go the distance, on my client's face, to last in the jar, and to go far and be economical. I want simplicity and ease of use and things that are light and transport well. Don't get me wrong, I love pretty things, I adore sensual packaging, I love buying new things and we can easily to succumb to the sway of superior marketing...but if I bought all of the things (I don't always, truly, I don't!) I'd have a huge overflowing kit and most of it would go to waste and eventually be passed onto my 3 year old.
So, there you have it...I haven't spilled the beans. Is that mean?
Ok, I'll mention a few....my die-hard favs, that I use without fail on EVERY. SINGLE. MAKEUP?..and maybe I'll review them in detail another day.
Eyeshadow & blush = VISEART ...I love these shadows, so buttery and blendable. If you're talking $ per gram these palettes are great value for money. They have a beautiful range of colour palettes. And they're handmade in France, ooh la la!
Highlighting & setting = HOURGLASS AMBIENT LIGHTING PALETTE ...For highlighting and as a makeup setting powder (not the highlight powder, naturally or your face will glow like a moonbeam) they give a subtle glow, diffusing lines and lifting your skin with a glow from within. Finely milled, these palettes last and last. I have one for my pro kit and one for me, that's how much I love this snazzy guy.
Makeup Primer = Nucerity's Rejuvenating Barrier... A water based serum that works with ANY foundation type, hydrates, smoothes, plumps, and reduces redness. Its lovely on men's aftershave burn. I find it means less touch-ups onset and protects the skin against harmful lighting from phones, lights and computers. Dead-set, I don't use any other primer, ever...this works beautifully for EVERY skin type. I love it so much, I've set up my own wholesale account.
Included below are the links you can use to buy your own products...should you wish to, because I'm not influencing you, I'm encouraging you to explore and try for yourself. ...I don't get kickbacks for saying you should buy these. Except the Rejuvenating Barrier, I get a small commission on each purchase, but, I'm not being paid to say I love it...I actually do love this one.
